UBER LYFT RIDESHARE INSURANCE
Particularly with today's millennial generation, #rideshare companies such as #Uber and #Lyft are rapidly becoming the new standard replacing taxi cabs , simply due to their convenience and relative low cost. As an insurance agent, I regularly receive phone calls and inquiries to my agency from #rideshare drivers who have been given the run-around by insurers who can not provide any coverage options for the gaps in coverage created by acting as a #rideshare. Until recently, I have had to turn these people away, however Farmers Insurance Group has created an option to provide the sought after coverage.
#Uber and #Lyft in fact have their own insurance liability policy which will cover the drivers while a passenger is in the car, however there is a period of time between the moment the application is switched on in search of passengers and when the driver is connected to a passenger that is not covered by the rideshare built in coverage. This period of time is classified as commercial use and is not covered under a standard personal lines auto insurance policy. Fortunately, this is where I am now able to endorse a personal lines auto policy to accommodate the need.
